Tackle and
Gear Reviews
From new lures, to rods and reels, kayak accessories and so much more. Unlike reviews where the item is sat upon a writers desk and he spouts how good it
is to get some free stuff to load his boat up with. Laughing, you know what I'm talking about. Maybe you can find what your looking for or what you should avoid.
Anyway enjoy the reading cause Joshua and I like to tear some of this stuff up.

Diawa Regal Plus 4000BRi & 5500BRi spinning reels

We received the Diawa Regal Plus 4000BRi and 5500BRi from the folks at All Waters Fishing. I have a little bias
to Diawa to begin with since I grew up with the Black and Gold series reels in the Islamorada. My first impression
is WOW!, 6 ball bearings and a smoothness that is great. These reels are by no means your ultra lights. They are
medium to heavy weight pieces of equipment designed to get the fish in the cooler.
The Pros
The reels feature the BR clutch system that allows you to free line live bait without touching the drag settings. The
5500's which I will use on surf rods for Pompano next spring are built perfectly for use on longer surf rods. These
reels have a slightly larger line capacity than the Shimano Bait Runner reels yet weigh in a few ounces less on
each comparable model.
Each reel comes with a backup spool which comes in handy if you do any pier or surf fishing around others. I
always have extra spools so that if you have to cut any line off due to tangles, you can cut away and use the
backup when your casting distance is hampered.
Pricing is right. These reels come in at about half the price than other manufacturers reels with less features.
Again check out the pricing from our friends at All Waters Fishing. The 4000BRi is less than $50.00 and the
5500BRi is less than $60.00.
I love the oversized handles. Easy to get a good grip on the handle is very important, even more so when the bite
is on and you may not have time to rinse your hands every 5 minutes.
The Cons
Diawa needs to loose the collapsible handle, or at least make a standard handle available. I have never been a
fan of unnecessary parts.
Thats it . A big 9.5 out of 10 on the scoreboard.

I used to buy all of my RipTide inshore saltwater plastic baits at
Bass Pro Shops in Dania. It seems now that Bass Pro has all but
cut complete ties with RipTide. The RipTide Mullet is one of the
finest soft plastic baits that I have use for inshore species such as
Snook and Redfish. After looking up the company online I have
found an easier way to get the baits that I want and have found an
even larger selection than Bass Pro ever stocked on the shelves.
Check out the link on the RipTide Logo for access to all of your soft
plastic bait needs. You'll even find sale prices on many of their
product. Tip: The 4" mullet in glow with the Nite Glow / Chartreuse
Tail is my goto for snook on the beach. Fast shipping and in stock
merchandise, I'm happy and you will be too.

I like to carry extra spools for all of my reels. I'm always ready with
either Ande Mono or Power Pro braid for each and every one of
them. Swifty has designed a tool that helps preserve my expensive
Power Pro braid by allowing me to remove it from those spools and
wash the salt completely out of it. As an added benefit it helps
preserve my expensive back up reel spools as well since there is no
salt trapped on them under the line. The tool is called the Swifty
PowerWasher Conventional Starter Kit and is available from our
friends at All Waters Fishing . For more information on the
PowerWasher visit All Waters Fishing or Swifty Mfg.. The best part is
that it costs less than one spool of Power Pro. An added bonus is
that you can cut loose 50 to 60 yards of worn out mono from a spool
unload the good line onto the Swifty insert, add 50 to 60 yards of
fresh line on the spool, tie a blood knot and refill from the Swifty insert.

It's hard to keep count of the Scotty items that will reside on and in the
Joshua's Jigs Fishing Team kayak. If you need to mount something
folks seem to have a solution. Lets start at the beginning with the rod
holders. Joshua and I figured that we need to carry 6 rods on the
kayak. However, not all 6 in the same location every time. That's not a
problem with Scotty. We are able to place extra, out of the way, with
easy access mounts in different locations on the kayak. We just
simply use the rod holders in the mounts that we need at that moment.
If we need to change all or some locations we can. And with the
Scotty rod holders we can even change types of tackle, from spin to
fly rods, or to bait casters Scotty has you covered. Joshua and I have
chosen a selection of spin and bait casting for the Team kayak. But
when I'm fishing alone I will add a fly rod holder. Our fish finder is on a
Scotty mount, this was a no brainer. In front of me in the yak is a hard
shell Engel cooler. On the front of the cooler is a mount that accepts
the Scotty fish finder post. And on either side are extra rod mounts.
When we needed something extra to get the job done right on the
team kayak, Scotty was right there to help us. Check out their new
locking mounts too. For some reason you can find a wide selection of
Scotty products with our friends at All Waters Fishing.
p.s. Scotty also have a great selection of safety items that would work
in your off road vehicles, as well as your boat or kayak.
